32 Bit GNU-DIFF 1.15

This is the gnu-diff version 1.15 package for MSDOS, compiled on the
PC using DJ Delorie's gcc/386 compiler. They will successfully
compare arbitrarily large files, regardless of the size of available
memory. The only size limitation is the disk space available for
swapping.

These programs require a 386 or 386SX processor; they will NOT run
under Windows 3.0 (except perhaps in real mode), 386MAX or QEMM.
This is a limitation of Delories DOS extender; he makes no apologies
for this and neither will I.

I have modified his extender so that it will use an XMS driver to
allocate memory if one is present. This means these programs will
coexist peacefully with XMS.SYS, SMARTDRIVE.SYS, etc, so long as you
stay in real mode.

If you want to play with my xms patches to the DOS extender, send me
mail.

Patches to the diff 1.15 distribution are included if you want to try
compiling this yourself. To do that, you'll need

1. the diff distribution. Available by ftp from prep.ai.mit.edu, as
pub/gnu/diff-1.15.tar.Z (you'll also need compress and tar, to
explode this file)

2. DJ's GCC/G++ package. Available by ftp from
grape.ecs.clarkson.edu in pub/msdos/djgcc.

3. A servicable version of patch, available from your friendly local
archive sites.

4. A 'modern' make, such as ndmake, or gnumake. Get it where you can.

To compile, you need to unpack the diff distribution tar. Then go to
the created diff directory, and patch the source using the enclosed
patch file.

This will create several files, in addition to patching existing
ones. You will need to copy the file 'dir.h' from the diff directory
to DJ's include/sys directory.

Then run make using makefile.pc.

The Four Disclaimers

1. I do not warrant that these programs do anything useful, or even
that they are harmless.

2. I am not in the business of providing people with public domain
software by E mail. If you can't find something that you might need
to make this package work, ask someone else how to get it.

3. 90% of Americans like football, and support the Persian Gulf War.
I disapprove of both, for approximately the same reason -- they are
violence as entertainment.

4. There is no fourth disclaimer.
