RaVwm v2.0 by RaV and ReZnot '97
------------------------------------------

What is it?

RaVwm is short for RaV Window Manager. A Window manager is a program interface shell,
such as explorer, that lets you launch applications, kill applications, and switch to
them as necessary. RaVwm imitates the linux interface shell fvwm, a very fast and easy
way to navigate and control applications.
RaVwm uses very little memory when active, and is much easier to navigate and use than the
explorer.

How much is it?

RaVwm is completely free. If you think it's really cool, a small donation
for the effort and loss of sleep I have gotten from making it would be much appreciated.

How to Install

Installation is very easy. Run setup.exe and choose the install button. This will
copy the ravwm executable to your system directory, and set it up as your shell when you
start your computer. If you wish to revert back to explorer, simply use the uninstall
button in the same program.

How do I use it?

RaVwm is very straightforward in use. The Desktop contains no items to clutter your
workspace. All you do is double-left click on the desktop and it will bring down a
popup menu. The Begin sub-menu is a similar copy of your explorer start-menu, and all
items are directly imported into this menu.
You can edit the begin menu with the "configure begin" option, and then reload it to
apply the changes to RaVwm.
Sound Volume and Control Panel are available directly on the menu, as are your desktop
and explorer. You can also shutdown, logoff, and reboot your computer from the main menu.
Once you have started applications, switching between them is easy, simply right click
on the desktop, and it will bring up a list of the current applications running. Click
on one and it will restore.

That's it! Hope you enjoy it, and please feel free to send me feedback, suggestions
or anything you want at mlg10@cornell.edu

Additional Info:

 Known Bugs:

- The window list sometimes won't restore an application, if the title bar changes, since
it tracks windows by their title bar. Just try it a couple of times again and it should
restore fine. I'm currently writing up a new window list system which will eliminate this
problem.

- Explorer can only run once. You can't run two copies of it. This includes looking at
your desktop and the control panel window. This seems to be a limitation (feature?) that
microsoft put in, since they don't expect explorer not to be the default shell. I'm
currently trying to find a way around this. If you know of one, I'd much appreciate it.

- Can't get to system tray applications. System tray applications run, but they are hidden,
so you can't get to them. The new window list system will fix this, allowing you to get
to hidden applications. For now, don't allow the application to minimize to the system tray.

- Shutdown and Restart don't work under NT. These just haven't been fully implemented yet,
I should have them working in a couple of days. For now, use logoff then shutdown from the
login dialog.

 Version Info:

- v2.00 First public release. I've been using this for the past year or so, and been fixing it
up as I go along, but I've never released it to the public.

 Upcoming Features:

- New Window list management. This will fix the bugs mentioned above, as well as add features
such as killing applications through the window list, hiding them, etc.

- System Tray. I'm working a system tray substitute that will let you get to the tray and the
applications on the tray.

- Shortcut Keys. Almost completed.. Ctrl-Esc to popup Window list, Shift-Esc to popup main menu,
plus individual shortcuts for applications on the menu.
