The MIDIMAN SysEx Librarian allows you to:

    * Receive MIDI System Exclusive dumps.
    * Save MIDI System Exclusive dumps to disk under any file name.
    * Load saved SysEx files from disk and send them back to your
      instrument via MIDI.
    * Many popular MIDI dump request messages are already included
in the SysEx Librarian for you. Before going to the trouble
of constructing your own message look at the disk directory
and see if it has already been constructed.
    * If a MIDI dump request message has not been created yet for your
particular MIDI module or MIDI module, then you can construct any
dump request message (in Hex) and save it to disk.
    * Comments may be saved with any of System Exclusive dump you save to
      disk.
    * Built-in help on menu bar.
    * Entire program is menu bar driven with pull-down menus.
    * Can temporarily exit out to DOS shell for file operations and then
re-enter program without losing SysEx information in memory.
    * MIDI Thru (through the PC) can be switched on and off from the
      program itself.
    * System Exclusive Data can be viewed and edited.
    * Built in MIDI monitor will display MIDI bytes as they are received.

This program allows you to receive MIDI system exclusive dumps any of your
MIDI equipment that can transmit bulk MIDI dumps. Once these MIDI dumps
are in PC memory they can be saved to disk. Once saved to disk, these
dumps can be reloaded and resent to your synthesizer or other MIDI module.

All operations of the program are performed by either pulling down the
desired menu bar or using the "hot keys" which are indicated at the bottom
of the screen and in the pull down menus.

To pull down a menu use the left and right cursor keys to highlight the
desired menu, or use the first letter in any of the menus. Once the menu
is pulled down, use the up and down cursor keys to highlight the operation
you want to perform. After this press return. To exit the pull-down menu
press Escape.

To exit the program when you are done, you can press Alt/X. Before you do
this, MAKE SURE ANY IMPORTANT SYSTEM EXCLUSIVE FILE YOU HAVE IN MEMORY IS
SAVED!

FILE MENU

All normal file operations are performed in this menu including: Saving
SysEx files (saves under the old name); Loading SysEx files; Write to
(which allows you to save the existing file in memory under a new name);
New (allows you to clear all data including dump requests out of the program
memory); Directory; Change Directory; OS Shell (Exit to DOS - but you can
re-enter by typing "EXIT"); and Quit.

SysEx files are saved with a default extension of ".LIB". This extension
can be changed in the Write To command if you wish.

MIDI MENU

This menu allows you to Send and Receive MIDI data in program memory. When
you execute Receive, any dump request message you have created will be
first sent via MIDI. This is how many MIDI Sys Ex dumps are initiated.

The third selection on the MIDI MENU, Send Request, allows you to manually
send the MIDI Data Request message.

The Thru selection on the MIDI MENU allows you to switch MIDI Thru On and
Off. When Thru is ON any MIDI that is received at the pc MIDI In will be
echoed out the pc MIDI Out.

The most curious selection on the MIDI MENU is "Wait On (or Off)". The
Wait selection is specifically for Roland products. It ends up that Roland
System Exclusive dumps need a short time delay (a wait) between each Sys Ex
data packet. IMPORTANT: Because of this we have built in a Wait switch
which should be turned On, if you are sending or receiving to or from
Roland gear. If you are not using Roland gear you can go ahead and turn
this flag Off. If the Wait is left on it won't hurt anything.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When you Save (or "Write to") a file in the SysEx Librarian
everything in program memory is saved in that file including any resident
dump request message and any comments in the note pad. Similarly, when any
file is Loaded the saved dump request message and notes will be recalled.
If a dump request message has been save in a file and that file is
reloaded, the dump request will be sent whenever Receive is executed in the
MIDI pull-down menu. SysEx saves dump request messages in the normal file
".LIB" files. In other words, there is no difference in the SysEx program
between saving a MIDI data file and saving a dump request file.

VIEW MENU

The SysEx Program can contain three different types of data including:
System Exclusive Data (the data dumps themselves); Dump Request Data (which
prompts the MIDI module remotely send the data dump); and Note Pad Data
(which is the user's own notes regarding the data dump and/or the Data
Request). Any of these three types of data can be viewed in the View Menu.
However, in this menu none of this data can be edited. The System
Exclusive and Data Request data, when viewed, appear in Hexa-decimal
format. This is a special "base 16" format used by some byte heads and
becoming more widely accepted by the rest of us.

The last selection on the View Menu is "MIDI Monitor." This selection lets
you view MIDI data in real time as it is received by the SysEx program.
When the MIDI Monitor is used incoming MIDI data is displayed in
hexa-decimal format.

EDIT MENU

The Edit Menu allows you to edit any of the three types of data which can
be contained in the SysEx program (see the above description of the three
kinds of data). To edit data select the appropriate type on the menu bar
and press return.

HELP MENU

The SysEx program contains in program help. To get Basic Help, File Help,
MIDI Help, View Help or Edit Help simply select the appropriate category in
the Help Menu.

  SYSEX FILES:
SYSEX.EXE - MIDI System Exclusive Librarian.
???.LIB - Demo librarian files. Each demo file contains
additional information in the Note Pad. Most files
contain data dump requests and loading instructions.
