Please read the license agreement in the file License.html before
using the package. The terms are essentially that you can use the
product without fee to write new software, but you can't distribute
PerlTools(TM) as an independent software unit without first negotiating
a licensing agreement with ORO, Inc. In other words, you can't bundle
PerlTools(TM) with a set of development tools. Please read the license
agreement for the exact details.

This is the 1.1 version of PerlTools(TM), a Java package built
using OROMatcher(TM) that makes Perl regular expressions extremely
easy to use by taking the responsibility of compiling and matching
out of the programmer's hands. PerlTools(TM) will compile and cache
regular expressions for you, allowing you to represent your expressions
as Perl pattern strings every time you use them. It also relieves you
from having to catch a MalformedPatternException every time you
use a new pattern.

PerlTools(TM) uses the OROMatcher(TM) package which you can download
separately from http://www.oroinc.com/downloads/ if desired. All
necessary files to use PerlTools independently are included with
the distribution.

We extend special thanks to Chris Toomey of AOL Productions whose
suggestions motivated the creation of PerlTools(TM).

The distribution consists of the following directories:

o doc/ - A placeholder for a future user's guide. (Sorry, we didn't
get around to putting on together for this release.)
o doc/api - javadoc generated API documentation.
o com/ - The PerlTools(TM) class files (in com/oroinc/text/perl/)
o examples/ - Example programs

All files in the archive containing this README file except for the javadoc
images (which are Copyright Sun Microsystems) are Copyright 1997
by ORO, Inc. All rights reserved.

To use the package either move the com/ directory to a place of your liking
and add it to your CLASSPATH or add the PerlTools.jar file to your CLASSPATH.
Macintosh developers should add the PerlTools.jar file to their CLASSPATH
because PerlTools contains class filenames that exceed 31 characters in
length.
