Individual alerts appear as rows in the Alert Manager's window. To enter a new alert type a treshold value in one of the cells of the "New" row. When you are done editing the value and press "Enter" or use the "Tab" or arrow keys to change cells, a new alert is created and activated. The row's status field displays "Active" and the "New" row moves downward, ready to create a new alert.
Once an alert is activated you can add more tresholds to the alert: for example you might want an alert activated only if the volume is over 100,000 AND last value drops under 34 1/8. It is simply a matter of typing a another limit under a new header in an active alert. Of course active alert limits can be modified by directly editing their value in their cell.
Then you should select of modify actions to be taken if the alert is triggered: the "Notify" action pops up a dialog window containing the alert message, the "Beep" action triggers a triple beep; the "E-mail" action sends an e-mail with the alert message to an address of your choice (to send alerts to your cellular phone for example). In any case you get a trace of the alert in the Alert Event Log pane.
