System requirements

DownloadMaster is consisted of three parts: Server, Client, and Admin

DownloadMaster Server

Server side is installed on computer which is permanently connected to Internet. It's Java application that takes URLs from users and downloads them. You can put it on any computer - Windows, Unix or other.

Requirements:

  • JVM (JDK, JRE, or other) version 1.1 or higher. JRE 1.1.6 or higher recommended
  • Web server that supports CGI scripts
  • Windows NT/95/98, Unix or any other OS that supports Java
  • Memory requirements: JVM requirements + 8MB per 10000 users
  • Disk space - depends on your users. Files will be deleted from server after specified time.

Depending on the total number of users and average number of active users, you should consider running Dm on dedicated server. If you have less than 10000 users it's generally no problem to run DM with other services on one server. Actual limit depends on DM usage pattern and your server performance. You can read an article in JavaWorld about server side performance on different Java platforms.

Tested platforms:

OS JVM Web server
Windows NT 4.0 Sun JRE 1.1.6, 1.1.7B, JDK 1.1.6 Microsoft IIS, Apache

Linux - RedHat 5.2,
