Configuring Web Server

DownloadMaster works in combination with Web server. You need Web server on the same computer where DM Server is installed. Web server needs to be configured in order to allow access to the following directories:

  1. install_path/web/client/ - Client applet
  2. install_path/web/admin/ - Admin applet
  3. install_path/web/download/ - Downloaded files. Subdirectory will be created for each user.
  4. install_path/dm-cgi/ - CGI script which makes HTML with links to downloaded files in web/download/username directory.

Configuring aliases

It's convenient to make only one alias in your web server that allows access to install_path/web/
Default setting is recommended - alias should be DownloadMaster.
This alias allows:
Users to access DM Client with URL http://host_name/DownloadMaster/client/
Administrator to access DM Admin with http://host_name/DownloadMaster/admin/
Downloaded files will be located in http://host_name/DownloadMaster/download/client_name/

You can have three different aliases for these directories if you want. You can also move them to public directory of your web server. URLs for DM Client and DM Admin are relevant only to your users, but if you change Download alias, you'll have to change parameter DownloadURL in server.ini. Read Configure DM Server.

Configuring cgi-bin

You also have to allow web server to access install_path/dm-cgi/ and to use it as CGI-BIN directory, i.e. it should be executable.
Default setting is recommended - alias should be dm-cgi so that browsers can access it with http://host_name/dm-cgi/

If you have to rename it (e.g. to cgi-bin), you'll have to change parameter CgiURL in server.ini. Read Configure DM Server.

WARNING!

DO NOT make install_path itself reachable through web server.
That would allow anyone to get passwords for users and admin!
